Art and Activism at Syracuse’s ArtRage Gallery

On Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. in the McNeil Firehouse, Kimberley McCoy and Katie Mulligan from the ArtRage Gallery will discuss the gallery’s origins and how it has become a welcoming, accessible space for the community. Mulligan will discuss her current ArtRage exhibit, No Man’s Land: Reimagining the Myth of Cicero Swamp. The gallery is a non-profit located in Syracuse’s Hawley-Green Neighborhood that exhibits art with social justice and environmental themes.

McCoy, co-director of ArtRage Gallery, has been with ArtRage since 2009. A Boston native, she studied art history at Syracuse University. During and after college she became active with local peace and social justice organizations such as the Syracuse Peace Council and the Syracuse Cultural Workers. Working at ArtRage has been the perfect way to share the transformational power of the arts with the community.

Mulligan is a freelance illustrator and educator from Syracuse. Katie’s current personal work is research centered around the history of wetlands in the United States, with a specific focus on Cicero Swamp Wildlife Management Area in Cicero, N.Y. as a case study of wetlands and their mystery. She is currently earning a MFA in Illustration at Syracuse University.
