Janis Orlowski, M.D., nephrologist at MedStar Health, will present “Ethical Considerations in Transplantation.” Her address is the spring 2025 Lanigan Lecture.
Dr. Orlowski is a prominent medical professional and administrator, known for her work in nephrology and her leadership roles in healthcare administration. She is a nephrologist and has served as the chief healthcare officer at the Association of American Medical Colleges, where her focus is on the intersection of academic medical centers and the health care delivery system. She has also held positions as chief medical officer and chief operating officer at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Orlowski has a long-standing career in medicine, having graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering in 1978 and from the Medical College of Wisconsin with her medical degree in 1982. She completed her residency and fellowship in nephrology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In addition to her medical practice and administrative roles, Dr. Orlowski is recognized for her advocacy on public health issues and is also known for her community involvement and support of various charitable causes. She has been a strong advocate for women in medicine, reflecting on the changes she has witnessed in the field over her career, including the increasing representation of women in medical education and practice.”
