Le Moyne College Partners with Caring Gene® to Strengthen Healthcare Workforce in Upstate New York

Le Moyne College announced today that it has entered a partnership with the Caring Gene® Career Pathways Training Program (CPT) to address healthcare workforce shortages in the Central New York region, reduce barriers to career advancement, and support individuals seeking to become compassionate professionals in the healthcare industry.
Through this partnership, eligible New York state residents and residents of certain bordering states full coverage of tuition, books, and academic fees while pursuing education in 13 healthcare, behavioral and social care fields, including full-time MS Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) students from Le Moyne. The program, administered by the Iroquois Healthcare Association and funded by the New York State Department of Health, supports both new healthcare workers and current professionals seeking career advancement. Upon graduation, FNP students who participated in the CPT program are required to make a three-year service commitment to Medicaid providers that serve at least 30 percent Medicaid members and/or uninsured individuals.
“The CPT program will provide assistance to students in our family nurse practitioner in a number of ways,” said Teresa Renn, associate dean for graduate admission and success. “The three-year commitment to serve underinsured and uninsured individuals aligns perfectly with Le Moyne’s commitment to service and social justice.”
Due to grant funds requirements, at this time this program is only available to accepted students who are beginning classes as new students in the full-time M.S. FNP program in the fall 2025 semester at Le Moyne. Students must complete the FAFSA & TAP applications and accept all grants offered through these programs. Students must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, and must reside in New York state. To submit your interest form and learn more about the eligibility for these funds, visit the Caring Gene website at www.CaringGene.org.
Le Moyne is accepting applications for admission to the full-time MS Family Nurse Practitioner program this fall. The next admission deadline is June 15th. Please visit the program website to learn more about our curriculum and submit a free application for admission.
“Le Moyne College shares our commitment to investing in the next generation of New York State healthcare workers,” said Kevin M. Kerwin, Esq., acting president and CEO of Iroquois Healthcare Association. “This program is an important step toward strengthening our healthcare workforce and expanding access to quality care in the communities that need it most. We look forward to working with Le Moyne to recruit and guide candidates through the Caring Gene’s CPT program.”
Le Moyne’s Family Nurse Practitioner graduate degree program equips students with specialized skills as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) to meet the challenge of providing comprehensive, high-quality and cost-effective care to individuals and families in the changing healthcare market. Small class sizes allow students to collaborate closely with peers and receive exceptional guidance from experienced practicing FNP faculty.
