Le Moyne’s First-Year Common Hour: Your Weekly Guide
When you first start out, college may feel challenging at times because you don’t know what to expect, you are surrounded by all new people, and you have to try to fit everything in. With that in mind, we created the First-Year Common Hour. As a first-year student, you’ll have a special time every week just for you, called the First-Year Common Hour. Think of it as your chance to explore, connect, get support, and settle in.
Your Questions Answered
- Every Tuesday throughout the Fall semester
- You are signed up to attend from 12:00–12:50 pm OR 4:00–4:50 pm (check your course schedule in Phinfo to see your time)
- There is a different activity each week of the month as illustrated below

1st Tuesday of Each Month: Class Dean Gathering (required)
- Hosted by your Class Dean and the Associate Provost for Student Development
- Discuss what you need to know to be successful and get ready for the month ahead
- Pizza and prizes at every gathering – you don’t want to miss this!
- Class Dean Gatherings will be on Sept. 2, Oct. 7, Nov. 4, Dec. 2 in Grewen Auditorium
2nd Tuesday of September & November: Food & Faculty
- RSVP for a sit-down meal in the Campus Center with professors and classmates
- Relax, chat, and build real connections with new people in a casual setting
- One meal swipe will be deducted. (Those without a meal plan will be covered.)
- Sign up for Sept. 9 (for students in the Carroll College) or Nov. 11 (for students in the Madden College or Purcell School). Undeclared students can attend either!
3rd Tuesday of Each Month: Academic Advising (required)
- Gather with your academic advisor and other first-year students who share your major
- Gain valuable advice about your major, future opportunities, and the spring semester
- Want to be cleared for spring registration? You’ll need to have attended these meetings.
- Check Course Availability to find your specific ADV time and location. Most advising meetings will be on Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18. (Please Note: Some majors will offer their advising sessions on different days/times. If that is the case, you are free on these Common Hour days.)
4th Tuesday of Each Month: Campus Meetups
- Uncover the hidden gems on campus as you learn about your new home
- Stop by a different location each month to tour spaces you may be unfamiliar with
- Meet new people and enter a raffle at each Meetup as you enjoy this new opportunity
- Check out the schedule below for the various meetup locations this fall!
