Finding a Home on the Heights

As a fall 2020 transfer student, Dawn Penson is just beginning her time at Le Moyne, but already she’s certain she made the right choice.

A sociology major who began at Onondaga Community College, Penson was originally set to transfer to Syracuse University when, less than two weeks into the semester, she realized the tuition costs were more than she anticipated.

“I registered at Le Moyne on the last day of registration with the exceptional assistance of those in Transfer Admissions, the Financial Aid Office and Disability Support Services,” said Penson, who is from Bridgeport, N.Y. “The cost of tuition was more affordable and I believe Le Moyne will be the place for me to continue to thrive both academically and personally.”

She plans on adding political science as a minor this spring, with plans to continue on to earn her masters after graduating from Le Moyne in 2022. Her career goal is to work on disability advocacy through public policy and legislation.

As a student with disabilities, she was aware of the work done by Le Moyne’s Office of Disability Support Services, and its director Roger Purdy. “I knew that he had experience working with blind people so I know I would be in fabulous hands.”
