Our Values

At Le Moyne College, we believe that education is more than preparation for a career: it’s preparation for a meaningful life. Guided by Jesuit ideals like cura personalis (care for the whole person), service to others, and a commitment to justice, our community is one where students are encouraged to think deeply, act ethically, and grow into leaders of integrity and purpose. You’ll learn to meet challenges with resilience, approach complexity with compassion, and discover the kind of success that also does good.

Rooted in Jesuit Values. Ready for the World.
An education that respects and prepares you for all the possibilities that await.
DIVERSITY - We welcome students of every background and faith.
Jesuit colleges and universities began with St. Ignatius Loyola (1491-1556) and his revolutionary idea about education: value the personal experiences of every student and believe in their potential for reflection and critical thinking. That’s why Le Moyne College has long welcomed immigrants, first generation students, students of color, other faith traditions, and anyone who faced discrimination or bias at other institutions. Our campuses honor every life story and foster respectful dialogue. It’s always a work in progress, and we are certain about our ultimate goal: building a community where everyone can thrive and belong.
RIGOR - A Jesuit education is about turning information into wisdom.
We’ll challenge you to grow as an ethical thinker, writer, and speaker—the key skills that employers look for and that society urgently needs. You’ll be encouraged to connect the dots between ideas—there’s always time in our classrooms for one more “What if?” The well-being of people and the planet are themes that inform all our majors, whether you’re studying the arts, business, law, or the fields in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). At Le Moyne College, you’ll be able to apply and grow your knowledge in research projects, internships and other real-world experiences. You can be confident that everything you’re learning and doing at Le Moyne is relevant and meaningful in the world.
JESUIT TRADITION - A global community of problem-solvers and leaders.
There are more than two million graduates of Jesuit colleges and universities in the world. That’s a big global community united by something important: a passion for seeking wisdom and advocating for justice. Graduates of Le Moyne College will tell you their education is the reason they stand out as effective problem-solvers and leaders. They pay it forward, too, as enthusiastic mentors. Our alumni are ready to share their experiences and their connections. They’ll help launch you on a lifetime of being more and doing more for the world.
PERSONAL GROWTH - Nurturing your capacity to reflect, grow, and act.
We’ll encourage you to think deeply about who you want to be and the contribution you can make to the world. In fact, we have a name for this type of thinking: “discernment.” Le Moyne College will meet you where you are and in whatever ways you need: We don’t separate the development of your mind from your development as a unique, whole, complex person. We want you to graduate equipped to make an impact for the greater good—with the courage to ask tough questions and a clear sense of what it means to live a life of purpose and consequence.
SERVICE - Standing up for the dignity of every person.
Giving back to others isn’t something a few students do—it’s a responsibility we have to each other and to all the people around us. We’re anchored in the communities and regions where we live, and you can work with local organizations and leaders to create real, lasting opportunity for all our neighbors. We know the distrust, distraction, and division in the world can sometimes feel overwhelming. We offer a place to learn that is unapologetically optimistic. If you share our belief that it is possible for our world to move forward for the better, we’ll show you how to turn your hope into action.
Striving for More on the Heights

“So much of an individual’s self worth is often placed on what career path they have chosen, something that directly conflicts with the teachings of St. Ignatius. Le Moyne offers ideas and strategies for finding meaning and joy in your career journey that is separate from one’s identity and internal joy.” Julia ’20 See how we will help

“Being part of the Jesuit experience here on campus means that you will have access to all of the service trips we make abroad (like the trip to Ecuador in the winter) and some of the service opportunities that we have locally to help others. These trips are meant to set an example of what being Jesuit is and how we help not only others on campus but the community as a whole without second-guessing it.” Paige ’21 How will you shape the community?

What does a better tomorrow look like to you? At Le Moyne, we’ll encourage and support you from the moment you step onto the Heights to dream bigger, to help others, and to care for yourself and those around you.

“Le Moyne’s Jesuit education has helped me grow as a student and a person. A Jesuit education goes far beyond what you learn in the classroom from a textbook. I have been able to experience many different types of courses. This, coupled with the community opportunities offered here at Le Moyne, has truly provided me a well-rounded education. The ability to adapt to change and the foreword thinking I was challenged with has helped me be successful in my endeavors.” Jenna ’19 See how we’ll help you explore, encounter and question the world you know and the world in which you’ll make your mark

“What makes me most proud is seeing such a small, tight knit community spreading all over the world, doing good wherever they go. I am constantly filled with pride whenever I hear or read news of Le Moyne alumni leaving their time on The Heights to go spread joy.” Dominic ’18. See how we’re putting our values in action
Jesuit Talk 101
A Le Moyne education is rooted in timeless Jesuit values but you don’t need to be an expert in Latin or theology to feel at home here. This quick guide explains some of the key phrases you’ll hear on campus. They aren’t just words, they’re the foundation for how we learn and lead.
In the Jesuit tradition, reflection leads to action. And action brings us back to reflection. Here, you’ll learn to ask bold questions, sit with complexity, and find clarity through experience. Whether it’s in a classroom discussion, an internship, or a moment of quiet, you’ll be forming the habits of thoughtful leadership.

Magis isn’t about doing more for the sake of more. It’s about doing more that matters. At Le Moyne, we challenge ourselves to go deeper: in thought, in action, in service. You’ll be invited to pursue excellence not only in your studies, but also in how you contribute to the world around you.

At Le Moyne, you’ll be known as a student, a thinker, a friend, and a future leader. Cura personalis, a Jesuit principle meaning care for the entire person, shapes how we teach, advise, support, and celebrate you. You’ll grow intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually here — not just succeed in the classroom, but flourish in life.

We believe that the best education we can offer is one that shapes the whole person. That means a life where intellect, empathy, and faith (in yourself, in others, in something greater) all grow together. You’ll find meaning here in your studies, in your relationships, and in the impact you make.
