Le Moyne College to Honor Daniel F. McNeil III ‘77 and Barbara Maylone Karper HA ‘07 at Le Moyne in New York Gala

Le Moyne College will celebrate the 2025 Le Moyne in New York Gala on Wednesday, April 2, at Current at Pier 59 in Chelsea Piers, New York City. This signature event will honor two extraordinary individuals: trustee Daniel F. McNeil III ’77, a visionary leader in the insurance industry, and Barbara Maylone Karper HA ’07, a trailblazing leader and mentor who recently celebrated 50 years of dedicated service to Le Moyne.
“I cannot imagine two more deserving individuals to recognize than Dan and Barb,” said Le Moyne President Linda LeMura. “In very different ways, they have both contributed to our Jesuit ethos of personal and professional excellence with an unrelenting commitment to service. Given Barb’s influence on Dan during his time at Le Moyne, it’s appropriate that they will be honored together at Le Moyne in New York.”
Since its inception in 2014, the Le Moyne in New York Gala has been a cornerstone fundraiser for the College, supporting initiatives that reflect its Jesuit mission. This year, proceeds from the event will support two transformative projects tied to the honorees’ legacies:
- The McNeil Academy for Risk Management and Insurance, founded through Dan McNeil’s visionary leadership, prepares future leaders in the risk management and insurance industries. The academy, which was established in 2019, has elevated Le Moyne’s business school reputation and prepares students to address the greatest threats of our time – unprecedented risks and uncertainties that demand innovative solutions and bold leadership.
- The McNeil Firehouse, inspired by McNeil’s early career experiences, will become a vibrant hub for student life. This reimagined space will include student gathering areas, a coffeehouse for arts events and house Le Moyne’s graduate program in Mental Health Counseling. The coffeehouse will honor Karper for her profound impact as a mentor, leader and advocate for Dan and the entire Le Moyne community.
Karper’s 50-year career has left an indelible mark on Le Moyne College. Hired in 1974, she helped create the College’s student development office, from student activities to programming to leadership development to overseeing new student and transfer orientation, including development of the Summer Welcome and Fall Arrival model used today. Over the past decade, Karper has taken on pivotal roles in advancement and equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, further demonstrating her commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
McNeil’s generosity and support established risk management and insurance education at Le Moyne. As the founder of McNeil & Co., McNeil has championed innovation in the industry while generously supporting Le Moyne. His contributions include establishing the McNeil Academy and providing critical funding for the McNeil Firehouse. A second-generation Le Moyne alumnus, McNeil’s legacy is deeply intertwined with the College’s mission and future.
The 2025 Le Moyne in New York Gala will celebrate the transformative contributions of both honorees, supporting projects that align with the College’s commitment to intellectual rigor, community engagement and cura personalis.
