Set the World on Fire: What Jesuit Values Mean to Us

At Le Moyne, our Jesuit values aren’t reserved for mission statements or special occasions. They’re woven into how students live, learn, and lead. From classroom conversations to community service, our alumni reflect on how the Jesuit tradition challenged them to become thoughtful, compassionate people committed to making a difference.
Rooted in Jesuit Values. Ready for the World.

“Le Moyne’s Jesuit education has helped me grow as a student and a person. A Jesuit education goes far beyond what you learn in the classroom from a textbook. I have been able to experience many different types of courses. This coupled with the community opportunities offered here at Le Moyne has truly provided me a well-rounded education. The ability to adapt to change and the foreword thinking I was challenged with has helped me be successful in my current internship and will help me in future endeavors.” Jenna ‘19

“This concept of ‘magis’ that we share is what really drives us. We ask: How can you be more? What can you do more? How do you maximize your experience? How do you push and be the best person that you can be?” Erin ‘02

“Throughout my time at Le Moyne I have had ample opportunities to work with people with a variety of needs. From serving students in an after school program in the Bronx to serving food at Rescue Mission, I have had many opportunities to be in service to others. This is an experience that will help me in my career.” Hannah ‘19

“So much of an individual’s self worth is often placed on what career path they have chosen, something that directly conflicts with the teachings of St. Ignatius. Manresa offers ideas and strategies for finding meaning and joy in your career journey that is separate from one’s identity and internal joy.” Julia ‘20

“I see my Jesuit education come out in all aspects of my new ‘adult’ life. Whether In the classroom with my students participating in a deep shared inquiry session or in my grad classes thinking about pedagogy, my Le Moyne education set me up to be confident and critical in these places.” Eli ‘19

“Thanks to the role of Jesuit values in the Le Moyne education, I learned how important it is to use your education as a means to develop the individual, and I used the experiences around me to help enhance my personal development. I studied abroad, built relationships, made mistakes and learned a ton from them, and I emerged from each of these adventures a little more confident, a lot more conscious of balancing my physical and mental health and, eventually, a completely different person than who I was when I first got here.” Lauren ’19

“One of the most important things I learned from my time at Le Moyne was the concept of service to others. No one pushed anyone into it, but I gratefully learned that not everyone was fortunate enough to have what we had, and we tried our best to give to others, through food, clothes, and toys for children. I learned that lesson well, and I am constantly searching for ways to give back, all these years later.” Char ‘89

“What makes me most proud is seeing such a small, tight knit community spreading all over the world, doing good wherever they go. I am constantly filled with pride whenever I hear or read news of Le Moyne alumni leaving their time on The Heights to go spread joy.” Dominic ‘18
