Le Moyne Mourns the Tragic Death of 2102 Graduate Matt Durrell Shaw

Shortly before midnight on July 4, Matt Shaw, a 2012 graduate of Le Moyne, and former student participant and highly respected and much loved leader in Le Moyne’s Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), was killed in New York City, the victim of a random shooting.

The Le Moyne College community would like to express its condolences to Matt’s family and friends during this difficult time. We pray for Matt's eternal rest in the Lord, and for comfort for his family and friends. We remember the goodness in this fine young man whose life has been tragically cut short by a senseless act of violence.

To help members of the Le Moyne community cope with this loss, the College held a service in the Panasci Family Chapel the evening of July 5. Fellow classmates and alums, current students, faculty, administrators and friends joined in prayer for Matt and his family, gathering in faith and with a spirit of remembrance.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 12, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Unity Funeral Chapels, 2352 Frederick Douglass Bl # 1, New York City, (212) 666-8300; following calling hours, a service will take place at 7 p.m.

The College is planning a memorial Mass in the future, at a date to be determined.
