Le Moyne College Hosts Talk by Alum on History of New Orleans Public Housing
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will host a talk by alum John Arena ’85 on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. in Grewen Auditorium. His talk, based on his recent book, is titled “Driven from New Orleans.”
“Driven from New Orleans” explores the drastic transformation of New Orleans’ public housing from public to private in the early 1980s, exposing the social disaster visited on the city’s black urban poor long before Katrina. Arena reveals the true nature — and cost — of reforms promoted by an alliance of government, nonprofits, community activists and powerful real estate interests. In his talk, Arena will also reflect on the impact of his undergraduate service experiences at Le Moyne in the development of his work in New Orleans.posted on: 10/19/2012
