Le Moyne’s Newton to Guest Conduct SSO for Feb. 20 ABBA Tribute Concert
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) ... Travis Newton, assistant director of music at Le Moyne College, will guest conduct the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in "Music of ABBA: Arrival from Sweden" on Friday, Feb. 20, at 8 p.m. at the Mulroy Civic Center.
Founded by Vicky Zetterberg in 1995, Arrival from Sweden has sold out at venues worldwide, and is hailed as the most authentic ABBA show bands ever, with musicians that including original members of ABBA. The group, which has grown from six people onstage to a troupe of 12 performers, recently received exclusive permission to perform and record the unreleased ABBA song "Just a Notion." They also have the exclusive right to copy ABBA´s original outfits.
Travis Newton is currently a member of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. He has performed and conducted more than 500 performances of Broadway musicals across the U.S. and Canada. Highlights include productions of Cameron Mackintosh's “Oliver!” and the U.S. National Tour of “Fiddler on the Roof,” for which he served as the violin soloist. Newton has also conducted numerous regional productions, including “Big River,” “Into the Woods,” “The Last Five Years,” “Songs for a New World,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
