Le Moyne Earns AACSB International Business Accreditation

Le Moyne College has achieved initial accreditation of its business degree programs by recent action of the Board of Directors of AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.  Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest service, and largest global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.

“This is a significant stamp of approval for Le Moyne,” said Dean of Management Dr. Salwa Ammar, who was present when the College’s achievement was recently recognized at the 2009 AACSB International Conference annual meeting in Orlando, Fla.  “It will undoubtedly help us continue to recruit outstanding students and faculty to Le Moyne’s management programs, and to become recognized internationally.”

“AACSB accreditation is a testament to Le Moyne’s excellence and rigor,” said Dr. Fred Pestello, Le Moyne president. “I am pleased not only with the outcome but also by the extremely positive response we received by the impressive review team of deans. I want to commend all those who played a role in the College receiving this important honor.”

Le Moyne College joins an elite group of institutions that have achieved business accreditation from AACSB International. Only 560 schools of business, or less than 5% worldwide, have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in management education.

To achieve accreditation, an institution’s business program must undergo a meticulous internal review and evaluation process.  During this period, the school must develop and implement a mission-driven plan to satisfy 21 quality standards relating to faculty qualification, strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students, as well as a commitment to continuous improvement and achievement of learning goals in degree programs.

During the accreditation process, the Division of Management at Le Moyne College was visited and evaluated by business school deans with detailed knowledge of management education, applying accreditation standards that are widely accepted in the educational community.

Le Moyne College, located in Syracuse, NY, is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the U.S.  Business programs have been part of Le Moyne College’s offerings since it was established in 1946.  The Division of Management has 27 full-time and 16 part-time faculty members that support its business and accounting undergraduate and MBA programs. Currently, it has an enrollment of approximately 600 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students.
