Student Speaker Selected for Graduate Commencement

Mike De Lucia, who will receive a Master of Science in Information Systems, has been selected as the student speaker for Le Moyne’s 2024 Graduate Commencement, which will take place on Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m. in the Event Center on campus.

“I'm honored to be selected as the student commencement speaker and believe my somewhat non-traditional background will provide a different perspective for my fellow graduates,” said De Lucia, who first graduated from Le Moyne in 1993 with a Bachelor's in English.

After graduation from Le Moyne, he taught high school English in North Syracuse for several years. Following that, he taught adult-ed computer courses through BOCES and other organizations in the mid-1990s during a time when home PCs and the Internet were becoming popular.

For the past 25 years, De Lucia has worked primarily in technology-related positions. Currently he works as the aftermarket systems manager for The Raymond Corporation, one of the largest manufacturers of electrically-powered forklifts and material-handling equipment in the world, where he's responsible for management, development and support of key business applications for product service and e-commerce.

He started on his MS in Information Systems in May 2020, just weeks after the start of the COVID-19 lockdown. In addition to his Le Moyne graduate degree, he also took advantage of the College’s partnership with Syracuse University and is also earning a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Data Security Management. A Clay resident, De Lucia met his wife Karen at Le Moyne while they were undergraduate students. The couple have been married nearly 30 years and have four children.
