Any matriculated Le Moyne College student may enter the Newhouse Writing Contest. Seven prizes of $300 each will be awarded for the best student work.
Please note that judges may decide not to award a prize in each genre
Students may submit work in a maximum of two genres.
A POEM
A WORK OF SHORT FICTION
(not to exceed 15 pages)
A CRITICAL ESSAY ON A LITERARY TOPIC OR FILM
(not to exceed 15 pages)
A CREATIVE NON-FICTION ESSAY OR JOURNALISTIC ARTICLE
(not to exceed 15 pages)
A PLAY OR FILM/TV SCRIPT
(any length)
DEADLINE: Friday, March 29, 2013, 12:00 noon
All entries must be typed, double-spaced and stapled. Manuscript pages should be numbered consecutively, and the name of the contest category (Poetry, Fiction, Critical Essay, Creative Non-Fiction, or Play/Script) should appear on each page.
Submitted manuscripts will not be returned.
All entries will be judged anonymously. Therefore, the author’s name should not appear on any page of the actual manuscript. Instead, the manuscript should have a cover page bearing the following information: author’s name, campus address and telephone number (or, for off-campus students, off-campus address and telephone), title(s) of work submitted, and name of contest category (Poetry, Fiction, Critical Essay, Creative Non-Fiction, or Play/Script).
Students may enter more than one category but may enter a total of NO MORE THAN four poems, one piece of short fiction, one critical essay, one creative non-fiction essay, and one play/script. Each entry in a different category must be submitted separately and stapled with its own cover page.
If you submit more than 1 poem, use a single cover page for all poems and staple everything together.
If instructions are not followed we may not be able to consider your work.
