The Educational Reform Movement: Why Are Public Schools Failing and Who is to Blame?

It is widely asserted by members of the "Educational Reform Movement" that our public schools are failing and the result is many students trapped in schools that have no hope of educating them. This narrative asserts that the most important cause of this failure is teacher unions and their role in collective bargaining for teachers. This talk will examine the evidence for these propositions and discuss how a social scientist might go about testing them.

This event, which will be led by Cliff Donn, Ph.D., of the Department of Anthropology, Criminology and Sociology at Le Moyne, is part of the fall 2016 Social Sciences Seminar Series. It is sponsored by Le Moyne's social science departments: anthropology, criminology and sociology; economics; political science; and psychology.
